Financial ConsultantYour Chartered Financial Consultant® has completed the most extensive educational program required for any financial services credential. It’s information like this that really motivates people to want to further pursue a career in financial planning. I now have several designations from IBF () and have been able to successfully set myself a part from the rest of my peers and I have gained a lot of great experience in the financial industry by doing so. I am currently looking at job offers from both Waddell & Reed (WR) and Northwestern Mutual (NWM), and I would appreciate more insight before I make a decision.

I was recently reminded of my passion for personal finance – but I feel like I am years away from being able to start a career as a Financial Planner, and I need some advice. I have more interest in finance, rather than insurance, and I realize that the first year at NWM would be purely insurance, with a possibility of becoming a financial advisor. I graduated with a Finance degree five years ago and have been a financial analyst for the last four years. I’m considering making a career change to financial planning and am still unclear on the education requirements.

I’ve thought for a long while that a switch to financial planning was in order, and I think I’m finally willing to take the plunge this year. Over 35,000 awesome financial people have joined the Good Financial Cents community – and you’re awesome, too! Jeff Rose is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional and founder of Alliance Wealth Management, LLC. You can be a financial advisor without certification, but it sure helps to have it. It demonstrates commitment and responsibility.

Anyone can call themselves a financial planner, but if you want to work with clients, you’ll need to work with a broker/dealer (yuk) or become a Registered Investment Adviser. I became a CFP (R) – Certified Financial Planner – and I highly recommend that program to anyone. I love being a financial planner and if you like helping others significantly enhance their lives, you will too. I was most interested in the personal financial planning material and am interested in changing careers to be a financial advisor. I have been working in the tax field for about 7 years now and I want to become a financial planner.

I am a people person at heart and would relish the opportunity to be out in front of people as a financial planner, as I feel I have a lot to offer. Thank you for writing this description about your work and how to become a financial planner. I am 42 years old, BA in Communications, MA in Technology Education, and I’ve spent half of my life working in tech for large trading firms. I want to move into financial planning for a dual purpose – to help folks get healthy financially and to have a career that can positively affect my own future.Financial Consultant
